What Do Recruitment Managers Think about Online MBA Degree Holders?

0116_interview_630x420Whether online business administration degrees are accepted as equivalent to degrees earned from brick-and-mortar b-schools is still a highly debated matter in and outside the campuses. However, people who are knowledgeable about the real scenario of the job market well know that these degree holders are all the same valued as the on-campus MBA degree holders. E Degree USA recently conducted a survey among recruitment officers representing different companies and what they expressed can be pretty much encouraging for those applying for online business management degree programs.

Should all the MBA degree holders (online and on-campus degree holders) be given the same value? Almost 50% of the recruitment managers we interviewed opined that they value both types of MBA degree holders the same whereas the rest  was of the view that online MBAs who have relevant work experience are far better candidates than the on-campus MBA degree holders. Other factors that are considered during an interview process, as revealed in the survey, are accreditation of colleges, time taken for completing MBA etc.

Recruitment officials who responded to our queries also added that they prefer online MBA degree holders with pertinent work experience for various other reasons. Firstly, they have pointed out that online students are good at virtual networking as e-MBA course curriculum often require the students to work in groups. Group project management skills that are instilled and garnered in online MBA students are what work in their later life. There are many other recruitment officers who expressed that online students already know how to work in flexible schedules and they are more disciplined and organized than the students who come from brick-and-mortar schools.

Of all the hiring officers we interviewed, at least 90% opined that online MBA degree holders are more passionate about their work, education and lifestyle compared to on-campus students who are distracted from the main purposes of taking up college education due to several reasons. Online students, on the other hand, have this urge to complete their studies within time though course structure in online learning world is generally more lenient than the brick-and-mortar courses.

Online MBA course plus work experience plus a sincere learning attitude equals to better job opportunities, to conclude.

Wow I find it really interesting that recruitment officials prefer online MBA’s as opposed to one from a university. I can see the good sides to both..at a university you have to go to class, learn, have good attendance but in a way I an see why an online MBA would be preferred. As you mentioned they have to learn online which shows a great knowledge of computer skills, it also shows the student is motivated to get things done and is good with time management. Someday when I get my MBA I will definitely consider all of this.
